Who We Are
The Sponsored Projects Finance team is a division of Business and Financial Services, comprising 25+ FTE. We oversee the financial management and compliance oversight of UC San Diego’s contract and grant funds.
What We Do
The Sponsored Projects Finance division ensures the control and follow-up of accounts receivables from sponsors, providing central campus oversight of key regulatory areas such as Effort Reporting, Cost Sharing, and Cost Allowability as mandated by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Uniform Guidance. In partnership with other key units in the Financial Operations Division in BFS, we also monitor compliance with cost accounting standards (CAS) and agency-specific regulatory requirements, including the NIH salary cap. Additionally, we deliver effective financial management tools, comprehensive training, and information to campus customers on a frequent and continuing basis.
Our team members provide the following services:
- Award Management: Establishing, monitoring, and closing out over 4,000 active research awards comprising over 6,000 individual projects.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring conformance with agency and university regulations, including cost accounting standards and sponsor-specific policies.
- Campus Support: Advising and guiding campus departmental staff, Principal Investigators (PIs), department chairs, Vice Chancellors, and deans in matters of compliance.
- Financial Oversight: Developing innovative business processes and solutions to ensure operational effectiveness, financial management, and accountability.
- Sponsor Communication: Maintaining necessary communication with sponsoring agencies to support award administration and compliance.
